Understanding Ohio Alcohol Laws: Limits, Sales, and More

In Ohio, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit for drivers over the age of 21 is 0.08%. This means that if you’re pulled over, and your BAC is at or above this limit, you’ll be charged with driving under the influence (DUI). If you’re under the age of 21, the legal limit drops to 0.02%. It’s important to note that even if your BAC is below the legal limit, you can still be charged with DUI if your driving is impaired.
Ohio Alcohol Sales
Ohio has specific regulations in place regarding the sale of alcohol. Per the Ohio alcohol laws, you must be at least 21 years old to purchase alcohol. It’s also illegal to purchase alcohol for someone who is under the age of 21. In addition, Ohio has specific hours during which alcohol can be sold. Generally, alcohol can be sold from 5:30 am to 2:30 am, six days a week. Alcohol sales in Ohio on Sundays are prohibited before 11:00 am, but it can be purchased from 11:00 am until 2:30 am.
Ohio Blood Alcohol Limit

For example, if you’re under the age of 21 and have a BAC of 0.02% or higher, you can be charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Similarly, if you’re operating a boat and have a BAC of 0.08% or higher, you can be charged with boating under the influence (BUI).
Alcohol Sales Ohio in Gas Stations
Ohio has specific regulations in place regarding the sale of alcohol in gas stations. According to the alcohol laws in Ohio, it is illegal to sell beer with an alcohol content greater than 12% in gas stations. Additionally, gas stations are only allowed to sell beer and wine. If you want to purchase liquor, you’ll need to visit a licensed liquor store.
